James Garry

James Garry

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Jim started his career as a Mechanical Engineer and Apprentice with Timex Corporation, subsequently undertaking a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering, at Dundee College of Technology, and then working for IMI Yorkshire Imperial Metals, involved in the organisation and operation of Hot Brass Stamping Section, and tool design and process organisation. He joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 1986, and has investigated over 4000 cases, the majority of which have been in the personal injury field, as well as product liability claims and criminal investigations. Jim is now Senior Partner of the Firm, and is based in our Newcastle office.

Andrew Hill

Andrew Hill

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Andrew graduated with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, from Newcastle University, in 1985. He then worked in civil engineering and construction, including as an engineer for Edmund Nuttall Ltd, a project engineer for Candac-Thiess Pty. Ltd, and a Project Manager/Engineer with Acer Consultants Ltd. Andrew then joined Cunningham Lindsey Loss Adjusters in 1996 as a Project Manager and Engineer, before joining Strange Strange and Gardner in 2003. Andrew has extensive experience in the building and civil engineering industries, and has prepared reports on in excess of 1800 cases, addressing accidents and disputes. Andrew is now a Partner in the Firm and is based in our Manchester office.

Anthony McFeely

Anthony McFeely

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Tony has a HNC in Mechanical Engineering, and graduated with a B.Eng degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Liverpool. He then worked in industry for 18 years, including with Rolls Royce Ltd as a Development Engineer and Turner and Newell Ltd as a Materials Scientist. In 1994 he first worked as a Consulting Forensic Engineer for Derbyshire John and Warman, subsequently working in the same capacity as a sole practitioner, before joining Strange Strange and Gardner in 2013. Tony has extensive experience in the preparation of Expert Witness reports, in a wide range of subject areas, including manual handling, machinery accidents, slips, trips and falls, and also in assessing mechanical failures. Tony is now a Partner in the Firm and is based in our Manchester office.

David Jackson

David Jackson

Consulting Forensic Engineer

David graduated with an M.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham in 1988, and has undertaken further study in welding technology in the Welding Institute, and Fire and Explosion Investigation at Leeds University. David was employed in industry from 1988 until 1995, including at Lansing Linde Ltd, undertaking work on the design and manufacture of lift trucks, subsequently becoming a Senior Production Engineer and Company Welding Engineer. He joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 1995, and has been involved in more than 2200 cases, in a wide variety of industries. David has also investigated and reported on many cases involving fire and explosions, in both domestic and industrial settings. David is now a Partner in the Firm and is based in our South Wales office.

Nigel Humphrey

Nigel Humphrey

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Nigel graduated with a B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Liverpool in 1979. He then worked in industry, primarily for Rolls Royce Ltd, as a Defect Investigation Engineer, but largely engaged on the commissioning of industrial and marine gas turbine plant. Nigel joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 1987, and has investigated over 3000 cases, involving personal injury in a very wide range of industries and environments, as well as equipment and machine failures. He has been involved in investigations in a number of well reported incidents, including the Battersea crane accident and G-Live (Guildford) accident. Nigel is now a Partner in the Firm, and is based in our Maidstone office.

Steven Tudor

Steven Tudor

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Steven graduated with an M.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 2001. He was then employed in industry for some 15 years, initially with QinetiQ Plc, including as a Mechanical Design Engineer and a Systems Engineer, and then with Malvern Instruments Ltd, as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. In these positions he was involved in the design and testing of, such as, military vehicles, and other military equipment. Steven joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 2015, and has investigated, and prepared reports on, more than 400 cases, in a wide range of industries and workplaces, including factories, shops, playgrounds, and also on product liability disputes. Steven is now a Partner with the Firm and is based in our Birmingham office.

Laura Martin

Laura Martin

Consulting Forensic Scientist

Laura graduated with a B.Sc degree in Marine Environmental Science from the University of Portsmouth in 2003, and is an Associate Member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society. From 2004 until 2017 Laura was a Safety, Health and Environment Technical Manager/Consultant with Bradley Environmental Consultants Ltd, during which she gained extensive experience in investigating industrial diseases, and safety and environmental matters, in a wide variety of industries and settings, including manufacturing, offices, retail premises, and domestic premises, undertaking inspections and testing where appropriate. Laura joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 2017, and is a Senior Consulting Forensic Scientist, and has investigated matters, and prepared reports on, asbestos related diseases, occupational noise exposure, occupational asthma, and, such as, water quality. She also acted as an Expert for the Prosecution in the recent Operation Melrose, concerned with the manslaughter of 39 Vietnamese immigrants. Laura is now a Partner with the Firm and is based in our Birmingham office.

Michael Corrigan

Michael Corrigan

Consulting Forensic Investigator

Michael is a road traffic incident investigator and works throughout the UK. He holds a Licentiateship from the City & Guilds of London Institute in accident investigation and is a Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators and the Institute of the Motor Industry. He served as a Police Officer for over 30 years, specialising in traffic and collision investigation before joining Strange Strange and Gardner in 2007. Michael has prepared over 1100 reports that are very regularly used in the Crown and Coroners’ Courts and Civil cases for both Claimants and Defendants. He is based in our Birmingham office.

Jeff Mason

Jeff Mason

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Jeff graduated with a B.Eng. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Salford, in 1999. He then, for about 5 years, worked for BAE Systems, Military Aircraft Division, primarily as a Flight Test Engineer, which included the planning of flight trials for military aircraft. Jeff was then employed in industry for some 15 years, working at various Companies, including Terry Group Ltd, Cummins Diesel Engines, Red Marine Ltd, and Baker Hughes, undertaking various roles, including Mechanical Design Engineer, Lead Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineer, and also as a Project Manager. He was involved in product design and project planning in various different industries, including lifting equipment and automotive industries, and also the offshore industry. Jeff joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 2021, and is based in our Newcastle office.

David Smith

David Smith

Consulting Forensic Engineer

David graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering, from Lanchester Polytechnic, now Coventry University, in 1977. Prior to joining Strange Strange and Gardner, he worked in industry with Alvis Ltd, Coventry Climax Ltd, and also Rolls Royce Ltd, during which he undertook various roles, including the design and development of armoured vehicles and forklift trucks, and also as a stress engineer on gas turbines, or jet engines. David joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 1980, and has investigated over 3,500 cases involving personal injury, occupational health, safety and welfare, road traffic accident analysis, and has also been involved in disputes concerning machinery and plant. David was formerly the Senior Partner of the Firm, and also a Governor of the Expert Witness Institute, and is based at our Birmingham office.

Adam Oakley

Adam Oakley

Consulting Forensic Engineer

Adam graduated with an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Birmingham City University in 2008. He was then employed in industry for some 15 years, initially with HydraPower Dynamics, as a Project Engineer specialising in hydraulic pipe assemblies and tube manipulation and then with Honeywell Hymatic, as an Advanced Test Engineer within Aerospace, Defence and Space sectors specialising in high pressure gas supply systems and cryogenic technology. In these positions he was involved in the design, prototyping, manufacture, qualification and acceptance testing of various products for precision aerospace and defence applications. Adam joined Strange Strange and Gardner in 2023 and is based in our Birmingham office.
